Ladies and Gentlemen, children shouldn't be here to witness this!
Welcome to Slug-It-Out-In-Public '98! Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!!

The first bill will pit Bill Gates vrs. Steve Jobs, in that age-old
classic, "Which OS is better?"! This will be a fight to the finish, with a
free-for-all round to voice your own personal beliefs.

The second bout will feature the Direct-L Archives vrs. all newbies!
Will the Archives satisfy the need for not asking how to remove the MIAW
one-pixel border for the nth time, or will the clamoring mob of
inexperience clog down the archives and turn them into a mire of questions
being repeated ad infinitum?

Then, get ready for the war, as Peter Small takes on anyone who
doesn't think that Director can be greater than we already know it is. Are
you anti-AI? Do you believe that the web and Director are two separate
entities? Can you be object(ive)? Then you'll want to tune in for this one
for sure!

Time for a little humour. Watch as Charles Wiltgen wrassles the
calendar. The prize up for grabs? The final release date of QT3, without
any b's, f's or t's! I'm sure that you're as anxious as I am for the
results of this battle!

Then, witness the power of the G-3. No, not the new Macintosh chip,
but the clash as the tag team of Glenn and Gretchen go against g/matter.
What's in a name, you ask? We'll learn tonight!

Then a tag team against one event, as cross-posts tangle with our
favourite list resident, John Dowdell. Will JD get tripped up by posters
going to both Direct-L and Lingo-L at the same time? We'll hope not!

And finally, the Main Event! The one we're all here to see. Shockwave
vrs. Java. Who will walk away as the Internet Heavyweight? (and we're not
talking download size here!) Which is better: update-able plug-in, or newer
browser built-in? Will Shockwave be able to deliver that one-two punch with
Smart Shock? Will Java be able to counter with it's slower, but more-hyped
stance? Keep an eye out for that wildcard, Dynamic HTML - we're not sure
who he'll choose to side with, or if he'll try and go it alone. The fate of
Net multimedia resides in this one, folks - you'll want to be there for
every punch!

And here comes the ref for tonight's matches.

"Okay, I want a fair fight. No name calling, no putdowns or lowdowns, no
dissing or cussing, keep it clean. If I point to the Archives, go there
immediately, and may we all win. Now shake hands."

G.
