forwarding email

[ Zettels Traum ] [ search / suche ]

Make sure to put in a .forward on your old account so old addressors will get
their mail sent automatically to the new setup (if you haven't already). To do
this, if you don't recall how offhand:

1. Telnet into your old account.
2. Enter "pico .forward" verbatim sans qotes. Note there is a "." at the
beginning of "forward".
3. In the screen which comes up type in only the new email address. That is,
foo@bar.com -- no RETURNs or anything else. (In your case I guess that'd be
briangray@earthlink.net .)
4. Exit pico (I think it's still CTRL-X for that) and answer [Y]es on the
"save modified buffer?" screen. Save it as .forward, which it should be named
already.
5. If you wish, pico your .profile as well, entering/altering things as you
see fit. What you enter/change on the old account for .profile will be
displayed to any user who tries to finger you at the old address for as long
as the account remains active.
