Daniel Woodard has the great step-by-step of creating such 3D rotations in
Extreme 3D, for export as a series of bitmaps to Director. Dave Kanter later
adds another way, should you be playing on a QuickDraw-3D enabled machine.

Because you mention delivery through Shockwave, a few other tips:

-- Keep the animation small in pixels, and small in colordepth... the first
should be done at rendertime, and drop the colordepth to no more than 8-bits
after the bitmaps are in Director. This will cut down on the size of the
transmission.

-- Use as few frames as possible. This will again reduce the amount of data
necessary. One trick is that you may wish to add a bit of directional blur to
some or all of the image in xRes, to smooth out the apparent motion despite the
low frame rate.

-- Another trick that can be useful for 3D animation on the web is to render
out from Extreme 3D as Hidden Wireframe (select this mode in Window Setup, then
render out choosing the Interactive Renderer). Import to Director and drop all
to 1-bit black-and-white images. Drag to Stage and give them all Matte ink. You
can then set foreground and background colors -- even animate these. The
wireframe gives the sense of motion, but at very little file size.
