Here's the express route: Word's equation editor is actually an OLE server,
and the Windows 95/NT version of Director 5 supports OLE cast members. You
can bypass Word, Corel Draw, Photoshop, screen captures, and, um, Fresno.

In Director 5, choose OLE Object on the Insert menu. (The cast window will
need to be active before you can do this.) From the dialog, choose
Microsoft Equation. This will bring up the equation editor, where you can
enter and format your equation just as you would for Word. When you're
done, choose "Exit and Return to" from the equation editor's File menu.

The equations will show up in your cast and be saved with your movie. They
appear on stage as a bitmap (you can even set the colors using Director's
tool palette), but you can edit the original equation by double-clicking
the sprite or cast member. When you create a projector or protect the
movie, the original equation information will be discarded and only the
bitmap will remain.

Incidentally, this whole process also works for Word Art, Microsoft Graph,
Excel, Visio, and any other OLE helper apps you might have installed.
